How I Started With Ketogenic Diet (5~12 Days): Beginner’s Approach With This Low-Carb Diet Trend

In my previous post, I had declared myself to try the ketogenic diet and write here as many experiences possible. Well, it has already passed two weeks, and now I’m ready to write the second post about this amazing experience. Long story short, I have lost extra five pounds just in seven days, and my pants are loose. Simple. However, there are more awesome benefits I can finally share with you guys!

Before getting into the main topic, I recommend reading through some of my contents I created. Below articles will clearly explain the original concept of the ketogenic diet and principles to follow. Kindly share with others if you found these useful.

The Progress

Thanks to the test strips, it was easy to find out whether I’m on the right track that I’m in a ketosis or not. As you see below, the color of the strips got more reddish as time went by. Left one is an image of my previous blog post when I just started the ketogenic diet.

One might ask that why would you need test strips while you still can test it by measuring yourself: morning breath, dizziness, thirst, and so on. From what I have gone through, though, it is because the symptoms of a ketosis diminish and your body slowly adapts to the condition. These strips became a great benefit to me after I finally got out of the keto-flu.

The Keto Flu

I went through the well-known “keto flu,” too. This is where people have a hard time passing through because it is accompanied by a headache and hitting lassitude. Even now, writing this article, I feel dizziness.

The body is tired to change fuel, and the brain also has to replace fuel to ketone bodies, which is why keto flu happens. To be specific, here’s the list of symptoms:

Most importantly, I want to emphasize that it is almost impossible not eating carbs unless you are armed with the strongest determination. For me too, I have been considering myself as having a firm willpower. However, during the keto-flu, I couldn’t resist eating chocolate before getting into bed since I felt too much dizziness.

Similarly, there will be a certain situation that you should have a meal at a restaurant. Things get even more complicated when you just can’t decide to eat your steak with a sweet gravy sauce. That’s what exactly happened to me, and I couldn’t help eating it! For your information, I wasn’t able to sleep that night because of the regret and weariness that I might be screwed.

As a result, I wasn’t screwed. The test strips came in handy at that time, although the color had faded a bit between 11th and 12th of the March.

Additionally, I also have found better ideas to consider when looking at the color of these strips.

Looking at the graph above, you can find out there is a difference between two lines. Why is there a difference of ketone in the blood and ketone in the urine? The reason is that the amount of ketone in the urine is the amount of “remaining ketone”. The amount of activity is so high that you have to use ketone so you do not have to throw away.

Therefore, do not worry too much if the results of the urine test come back and forth.

 

So, no Keto-Flu Anymore?

Frankly, I still lightly feel some of the symptoms. Compared to before, however, it has become a way easier to overcome. I even enjoy the feelings after recognizing that I’m actually shedding my weight off.

 

Extra Benefits: Improved Skin

Many people say, including me, that their skin got gradually improved over time during the ketogenic diet. Hence there are quite a few people asking if there is any correlation between the diet and skin textures.

In fact, it doesn’t mean that the skin is getting better, and it seems to me that the skin is going back to normal. As you see the beverage containing sugar, is sticky. Likewise, when there is a lot of glucose in our blood, the blood is viscous, and the flow is not smooth. As a result, the nutrients and various substances are not delivered correctly.

I can also explain that by breaking the saccharide, the flow of blood is getting better. Thus the nutrients and various substances are properly transferred to the skin, which it returns to a beautiful and clean skin texture.
